My movie picks this week are 'Real Steel' and 'Scream 4'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

1911 (R, Action, Drama, Epic and Historical, War): Directed by Jackie Chan and starring Jackie Chan, Bingbing Li, Winston Chao, Joan Chen and Jaycee Chan.

Blackthorn (R, Action, Western): Directed by Mateo Gil and starring Sam Shepard, Eduardo Noriega, Stephen Rea, Nikolaj Coster-Waldan and Magaly Solier.

Dirty Girl (R, Comedy, Drama): Directed by Abe Sylvia and starring Juno Temple, Jeremy Dozier, William H. Macy, Milla Jovovich and Mary Steenburgen.

Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone (Not Rated, Documentary, Music): Directed by Chris Metzler and Lev Anderson and starring Laurence Fishburne, Flea, Gwen Stefani, Ice-T and Perry Farrell.

Human Centipede 2: Full Sequence (Not Rated, Horror, Thriller): Directed by Tom Six and starring Ashlynn Yennie, Dominic Borelli, Laurence R. Harvey, Georgia Goodrick and Lucas Hansen.

The Ides of March (R, Drama, Thriller): Directed by George Clooney and starring Ryan Gosling, George Clooney, Evan Rachel Wood, Marisa Tomei and Paul Giamatti.

Incendiary: The Willingham Case (Not Rated, Documentary): Directed by Steve Mims and Joe Bailey Jr.

Real Steel (PG-13, Drama, Action, Science Fiction): Directed by Shawn Levy and starring Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, Dakota Goyo, Anthony Mackie and Kevin Durand.

Texas Killing Fields (R, Drama, Crime): Directed by Ami Canaan Mann and starring Sam Worthington, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chloe Grace Moretz, Jessica Chastain and Jason Clarke.

The Way (PG-13, Action, Comedy, Drama): Directed by Emilio Estevez and starring Martin Sheen, Emilio Estevez, Deborah Kara Unger, Yorick van Wageningen and James Nesbitt.

New DVD releases for the week of Oct. 4 include:

African Cats (G, Documentary, Special Interest): Directed by Alastair Fothergill and Keith Scholey.

The Caller (R, Drama, Mystery, Suspense, Thriller): Directed by Matthew Parkhill and starring Rachelle Lefevre, Stephen Moyer, Luis Guzman, Ed Quinn and Lorna Raver.

Fast Five (PG-13, Action, Crime, Thriller): Directed by Justin Lin and starring Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster and Tyrese Gibson.

The Heart Specialist (R, Comedy, Drama, Romance): Directed by Dennis Cooper and starring Zoe Saldana, Wood Harris, Brian J. White, Mya and Scott Paulin.

The High Cost of Living (Not Yet Rated, Drama, Romance): Directed by Deborah Chow and starring Zach Braff and Isabelle Blais.

Jig (PG, Documentary, Special Interest): Directed by Sue Bourne.

Phase 7 (R, Comedy, Horror): Directed by Nicolas Goldbart and starring Daniel Hendler, Jazmin Stuart, Yayo Guridi and Federico Luppi.

Scream 4 (R, Horror, Suspense, Thriller): Directed by Wes Craven and starring Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Emma Roberts and Rory Culkin.

Submarine (R, Comedy, Drama): Directed by Richard Ayoade and starring Craig Roberts, Sally Hawkins, Noah Taylor, Yasmin Paige and Paddy Considine.

The Undefeated (PG-13, Documentary): Directed by Stephen K. Bannon and starring Sarah Palin, Andrew Breitbart, Con Bunde, Gene Therriault and Jamie Radtke.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Real Steel,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Scream 4.”
