Which of Anne Rice's 26 novels is your personal favorite?

I saw in today’s Mobile Press-Register that today – Oct. 4, 2011 – is Anne Rice’s 70th birthday.

A native of New Orleans, Rice is a southern writer who is best known for her vampire novels, “Interview with the Vampire,” “The Vampire Lestat” and “The Queen of the Damned.” She is one of the most widely read novelists in modern history with her books having sold nearly 100 million copies.

Many of you will be familiar with her work after having seen the motion picture versions of “Interview with the Vampire” and “Queen of the Damned.” The movie version of “Interview with the Vampire” was released in 1994 and starred Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst. “Queen of the Damned” was released in 2002 and starred Aaliyah and Stuart Townsend.

By my count, Rice has published 26 books and what follows is a list of her books in chronological order. Without further ado, here’s a complete list of her books:

- Interview with the Vampire (1976)

- The Feast of All Saints (1979)

  1. I love Anne Rice's writing. She has that magical ability to take her readers into different worlds, her books are not mere horror stories, they are novels that include darkness/morbidity. Her characters become so believable the reader forgets that the story(ies) are make-believe

My favorite Anne Rice book is a toss between Witching Hour and Feast of All Saints. FOA, is wonderful way of exploring the history of New Orleans/Free People of Color and their impact on New Orleans.

As for the Witching Hour, that is best book I have read for enjoyment in my adult life. The characters were so realistic, in spite of the extraordinary talents they had. I never wanted this book to end! I hope that Anne will gift us with another Mayflower novel.

The thought also entered my mind that I would love to see Witching Hour as a film. What a splendid back-drop New Orleans would make! That city sure could use the money resulting from this film. I would also love to see the best and brightest young people cast as major characters. I am thinking, Bruno Mars, Idena Menzel, Jarrod Spector and Rufus Wainwright as leads. I would also love to hear a score for this dream production composed by Rufus Wainwright in collaboration with JayZ:).

I thank you Lee Peacock, for putting this up. I pray Anne will continue to write and may she never forget her BigEasy Roots!
