Goodreads.com announces the winners of the 2011 Goodreads Choice Awards

Goodreads.com, one of the best, fastest-growing and most popular book-related Web sites out there, announced earlier today the winners of the 2011 Goodreads Choice Awards.

Over 638,000 votes were cast by booklovers in three rounds of fan voting, and the winner of this year’s coveted Favorite Book of 2011 award went to “Divergent” by Veronica Roth.

“Divergent” beat out some stiff competition for the Favorite Book of 2011 award. The other 14 nominees in that category included the following titles in alphabetical order:

- Awakened by P.C. Cast
- Bossypants by Tina Fey
- City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare
- A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin
- Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris
- Delirium by Lauren Oliver
- A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
- Forever by Maggie Stiefvater
- Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
- The Paris Wife by Paula McLain
- Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning
- Sing You Home by Jodi Picoult
- State of Wonder by Ann Patchett
- The Wise Man’s Fears by Patrick Rothfuss

In addition to the Favorite Book of 2011 award, awards for “best book” were also given in 21 other categories and this year’s slate of winners in those categories were as follows:

Best Fiction – “1Q84” by Haruki Murakami

Best Mystery & Thriller – “Smokin’ Seventeen” by Janet Evanovich

Best Historical Fiction – “The Paris Wife” by Paula McClain

Best Fantasy – “A Dance With Dragons” by George R.R. Martin

Best Paranormal Fantasy – “Shadowfever” by Karen Marie Moning

Best Science Fiction – “11/22/63” by Stephen King

Best Horror – “Graveminder” by Melissa Marr

Best Romance – “Lover Unleashed” by J.R. Ward

Best Humor – “Bossypants” by Tina Fey

Best Nonfiction – “The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth” by Alexandra Robbins

Best History & Biography – “Steve Jobs” by Walter Isaacson

Best Memoir & Autobiography – “Two Kisses for Maddy” by Matthew Logelin

Best Food & Cooking – “My Father’s Daughter” by Gwyneth Paltrow

Best Travel & Outdoors – “Little Princes” by Conor Grennan

Best Young Adult Fiction – “Where She Went” by Gayle Forman

Best Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction – “Divergent” by Veronica Roth

Best Middle Grade & Children’s – “The Son of Neptune” by Rick Riordan

Best Picture Books – “When I Grow Up” by Al Yankovic

This year marked the third consecutive year in which the Goodreads Choice Awards have been named. The winner of the Favorite Book of 2010 was “Mockingjay” by Suzanne Collins, and the winner of the Favorite Book of 2009 was “Catching Fire” by Suzanne Collins.
