“The Stokes Academy Rams kicked a field goal in the second overtime period to defeat the Sparta Academy Warriors, 3-0, Friday night at Stuart-McGehee Field.
“Jamie Deason led the Warrior attack with 70 yards on 16 carries. Lee Wild picked up 61 yards on 24 carries. Jeff Carrier, five on one; Lynn Salter, one on one; and Kenny Bledsoe lost 12 on four.”

“The Evergreen Aggies lost their first game of the season last Friday night when the Paramount Bobcats scored on two of their first three drives in the first quarter to build a 14-0 lead at the end of one quarter and then held on for a 20-12 win.
“Evergreen got their first points of the night with 7:38 left in the third quarter on an 11-yard run by Steve Cunningham. Steve’s run capped a 67-yard drive that took 10 plays to open the second half. The PAT failed after a bad snap from center.
“Late in the fourth quarter, the Aggies drove to Paramount’s 25-yard line where they attempted to pass and it was intercepted by Paramount at the two-yard line. The Paramount defensive back was tackled by Willie Gill, causing a fumble. Tony Simpson picked up the fumble at the five-yard line and returned it for a touchdown with 1:40 left in the ballgame. The try for two failed making the final score 20-12 in favor of Paramount.”

“Sparta continued undefeated with a strong victory Friday night over Pike Liberal Arts Academy of Troy, Ala., 20-6.
“End, Jeff Nichols broke the ice with a tremendous run on an intercepted pass, behind crisp blocking, that covered 29 yards and brought the crowd to its feet in the third quarter. The Warriors ran the two-point conversion and went out front 8 to 0 with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter.
“The Warriors third and fourth touchdowns came on passes from Monroe to Jeff Nichols. All the scoring came in the second half after a strong defensive first half battle by both teams.”
Other standout Sparta players in that game included George McKenzie, Buddy Monroe and Will Ward.

“Tiger rushing at the power of Monroeville fullback Calvin Williams dumped the Evergreen Aggies to an 0-3 mark for the season Friday night as they received a sound thrashing from the Monroeville Tigers, 27-7.
“Anthony Armstrong accounted for the one Aggie score when he crossed the scoring stripe with an aerial bomb of 58 yards from quarterback Willie Paige. Charlie Johnson kicked the extra point, making it seven, leaving the Aggies down at the half, 13-7.”

“Coach Delvin Lathan reports that the drills are being run off in a very high spirited manner, and he thinks his charges will give a good account of themselves in action this year.

“Trapping Seasons Announced By Gill: Seasons for the trapping of fur bearing animals in Alabama have been announced by Conservation Director Albert W. Gill. A two-month season, Dec. 1-Jan. 31, is permitted on civet cat, skunk, fox, mink, weasel, o’possum, rabbit, raccoon and muskrat. The season on muskrat in Mobile and Baldwin counties, however, remains closed.
“There will be no open trapping season on bear, beaver, otter or alligators.”

“Three Young Deer At Game Sanctuary: Three fawn deer, a buck and two does, scarcely larger than a fox terrier dog, have been captured and placed in a rearing pen at the Fred Stimpson game sanctuary near Salt Springs in lower Clarke County, according to Chief Ben C. Morgan of the Game, Fish and Seafoods Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation. They were captured when just a few days old in Clarke and Washington counties by game wardens Davis Henson and Coble Stanley.
“Chief Mogan announced that the Game, Fish and Seafoods Division will pay $2.50 for each young deer captured in the woods and in an uninjured condition. He emphatically stated they must not be trapped.”

“Coach Robinson is holding daily workouts with the football squad (at the State Secondary Agricultural School). So far about 20 boys have appeared for practice, but others will be on hand soon no doubt. Prospects for the team this year, while not as flattering as might be desired, are good. The material on hand is mostly new and inexperienced, but the practices reveal improvement each day and it is believed that with the small nucleus left from last year’s team a genuine fighting organization can be perfected.”
