This week's movie picks are 'Godzilla' and 'Her'

It’s Wednesday, so today I give you my weekly list of movies that will open in theatres this week as well as a list of movies that will be released this week on DVD.

I hope this will serve as a useful guide as to what’s going on this week if you happen to be near a movie theatre or if you’re looking for something to drop into your NetFlix queue or pick up at the local Redbox.

Movies that are scheduled to hit theatres this week include:

- Chinese Puzzle (Comedy, Drama, Romance, R): Directed by Cedric Klapsich and starring Audrey Tautou, Romain Duris, Kelly Reilly, Toshiko Onizawa and Cecile de France.

- The Discoverers (Comedy, Drama): Directed by Justin Schwarz and starring Griffin Dunne, Madeleine Martin, Devon Graye, Stuart Margolin and John C. McGinley.

- Don Peyote (Comedy, Drama, Not Rated): Directed by Michael Canzoniero and Dan Fogler and starring Dan Fogler, Wallace Shawn, Jay Baruchel, Josh Duhamel and Dean Winters.

- Godzilla (Action, Adventure, Science Fiction, PG-13): Directed by Gareth Edward and starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, David Strathairn and Juliette Binoche.

- Half of a Yellow Sun (Drama, Romance, R): Directed by Biyi Bandele and starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Joseph Mawle and John Boyega.

- Horses of God (Drama): Directed by Nabil Ayouch.

- The Immigrant (Drama, Mystery, R): Directed by James Gray and starring Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix, Jeremy Renner, Dagmara Dominczky and DeeDee Luxe.

- Million Dollar Arm (Comedy, Drama, Family, PG): Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Jon Hamm, Bill Paxton, Lake Bell, Suraj Sharma and Alan Arkin.

- A Short History of Decay (Comedy, R): Directed by Michael Maren and starring Bryan Greenberg, Linda Lavin, Harris Yulin, Kathleen Rose Perkins and Benjamin King.

- Wolf Creek 2 (Horror, Not Rated): Directed by Greg McLean and starring John Jarratt, Ryan Corr, Shannon Ashlyn, Phillipe Klaus and Gerard Kennedy.

New DVD releases this week include:

- Goodbye World (Action, Drama): Directed by Denis Hennelly and starring Adrian Grenier, Ben McKenzie, Scott Mescudi, Kerry Bishe and Mark Webber.

- Her (Comedy, Drama, Romance, R): Directed by Spike Jonze and starring Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Scarlett Johansson, Rooney Mara and Chris Pratt.

- I, Frankenstein (Action, Horror, Suspense, PG-13): Directed by Stuart Beattie and starring Aaron Eckhart, Jai Courtney, Bill Nighy, Yvonne Strahovski and Kevin Grevioux.

- Special ID (Action, Crime, R): Directed by Clarence Fok Yiu-Leung and starring Donnie Yen, Collin Chou and Tain Jing.

- Stalingrad (Action, War, R): Directed by Fedor Bondarchuck and starring Tomas Krechmann, Yanina Studilina, Mariya Smolnikova, Pyotr Fyodorov and Sergey Bonarchuk.

- That Awkward Moment (Comedy, Romance, R): Directed by Tom Gormican and starring Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Imogen Poots and Jessica Lucas.

If I could only watch one movie at the theatre this week, it would be “Godzilla,” and if I had to pick just one DVD to rent this week, it would be “Her.”
