Glennis Curry remains No. 1 in local ESPN college football contest

As of Monday afternoon, four teams were still in the hunt for an appearance in this year’s World Series. The Royals held a 2-0 edge in the American League Championship Series (ALCS), and the Giants and Cardinals were tied 1-1 in the National League Championship Series. Both series are best-of-seven series, so only time will tell as to how long each series will continue.

Despite their 0-2 start in the series, I like the Orioles over the Royals, even though the Royals are off to a good start. I won’t be too broken up if Kansas City wins the ALCS since they haven’t been to the World Series in a long, long time, but I’m pulling for the Orioles nonetheless.

Of the two series, the Giants and Cards have the potential to be the best. Both teams are experienced and have decent pitching, so this one could go either way in my opinion. I’d give the edge to the Cardinals, but to me it’s a toss up.

The seventh week of our local ESPN College Football Pick ‘Em contest has come to an end and the standings on Sunday morning showed a few changes in the Top 10.

Glennis Curry remained in first place for the second straight week, and Steve Stacey went from third place to second place. Mike Dailey remained in third place.

Aaron Albritton and Barlow_91 were tied for the fourth place spot. Aaron was in second place last week, and Barlow_91 was in seventh place last week. (Barlow_91, if you’re reading this, please send me your real name.)

Ricky Taylor moved into sixth place. Ricky Powell and Rod Sims were tied for seventh place. Powell was in sixth place last week, and Sims was in fifth place last week.

Sharon Peacock went from tenth place to ninth place, and Johnny Davis jumped into the No. 10 spot. I finished the week in 13th place.

If you’re playing this local contest and didn’t finish in the Top 10, don’t sweat it. This contest will run for seven more weeks, and it’s a marathon not a sprint. You’ll find that the standings will change a lot over the next two months.

In the SEC this week, there are five head-to-head games between conference opponents on Saturday and one other game involving an SEC school.

South Carolina will play Furman in Columbia at 2:30 p.m. (SECN), and Alabama will play Texas A&M in Tuscaloosa at 2:30 p.m. (CBS). Georgia will play Arkansas in Fayetteville at 3 p.m. (SECN), and Missouri will play Florida at 6 p.m. Tennessee will play Ole Miss in Oxford at 6 p.m., and Kentucky will play LSU in Baton Rouge at 6:30 p.m. (SECN).

Auburn, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt do not play this week.

For what it’s worth, here’s how I see each of those games playing out. I like Alabama over Texas A&M, Georgia over Arkansas, Ole Miss over Tennessee, Florida over Missouri, LSU over Kentucky and South Carolina over Furman.
