Pony League calls meeting April 12: There will be a meeting of all persons interested in the Evergreen Pony League at seven o’clock Monday night at the Courthouse.

From “Front Page, Upper Left Corner” by Bob Bozeman – Sam Granade finally shot at a turkey and didn’t miss, bagging a big one Tuesday morning. I didn’t see the bird, but some of Sam’s hunting and fishing buddies were telling it that the farmers of the county might better check their barnyards and be sure none of their domestic turkeys are missing.
“Check” Ellis also got a turkey and J.C. Reeser is giving him a pretty hard time of it. Check showed J.C. a couple of holes in the webbing on the Tom’s feet which he figured came from an earlier huntsman attempt to shoot the bird. J.C. told him: “No, Check. The truth of it is I know the fellow that turkey belonged to and he uses a ticket punch to mark his turkeys.”

Aggie Baseballers Lose To Andalusia 5 to 1: The Evergreen High School Aggies opened the 1950 baseball season in Andalusia Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 5-1 decision to the crack Andy High Bulldog nine. Jack Cunningham, senior southpaw hurler, worked on the mound for the Aggies and did a neat job of pitching.
Afield the Aggies played excellent ball. The infield finished the seven-inning game without committing a bobble. The outfield got by with only one miscue.
At the plate, the Aggies were ineffective, collecting only three hits. Bertie Hassel led the stickmen with two safe knocks. Bobby (Pistol Pete) Wells rapped out the only other hit for the Evergreens. Cunningham allowed five hits.

Baseball Workouts Now Being Held Daily: Coach E.L. McInnis is holding daily workouts with the players on Evergreen’s baseball team, these practices having begun about a week ago. Excellent progress is reported with prospects for one of the best teams Evergreen has had in several years. Virtually all of the players on the team last year are going out each afternoon at three o’clock for practice, as well as a number of new players.
Among those who have been going out who did not play last season are: Mac English, pitcher; “Red” Hardin, catcher; “Mutt” Wilson, third base; Chas. English, catcher. There are several others players who have been going out whose names could not be secured by The Courant.
Coach McInnis and the team extends a cordial invitation to any player living in Conecuh County who desires to try out for a position on the team, to be at Gantt Field at three o’clock each afternoon for regular practice.
The Central Alabama League composed of Andalusia, Opp, Greenville and Evergreen is scheduled to open Sunday but as The Courant goes to press it was impossible to secure the schedule due to some hitch in its arrangement. It is understood that Evergreen will play its opening game in Opp Sunday. The schedule for this season is expected by the end of this week.
