Couple reports seeing Bigfoot-like creature on Settlement Road near Travis Bridge

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve had any new Bigfoot news to share, but during the past week, a young couple told me about a Bigfoot incident that they experienced over the summer in eastern Conecuh County.

According to this boyfriend-girlfriend couple, who asked to remain anonymous, they saw a large, Bigfoot-like creature one night in either late-August or early September. They couldn’t remember the exact date of the incident because they didn’t realize at the time that anyone would be interested in knowing about what happened, they said.

The incident occurred on a clear, humid night around 9:30 p.m. when the couple took their two dogs outside before going to bed for the night. The incident happened just outside a residence on Settlement Road, a dirt road just north of Travis Bridge.

Travis Bridge crosses over the Sepulga River, where Bigfoot sightings were reported in July and in 2008. Those sightings occurred near Staples Bridge, which is southeast of Travis Bridge on the Sepulga River.

As the couple stood there with their dogs, they heard the sound of footsteps coming up the dirt road and when they turned to look they saw a “large, black figure” that had apparently just emerged from the woods, they said. The couple stood there in the yard by the house and watched the creature for a little less than two minutes before running inside “pretty quickly,” they said.

The couple noted that there was a security light in the yard, but the creature didn’t get close enough to be seen in the light cast by the security light, which prevented them from seeing the creature more clearly. They both described it as very tall, solid black and covered in fur. Both of them estimated that the creature was over seven feet tall. The boyfriend also noted that the creature had a “weird-shaped head” because he remembered thinking at first that it had a hat on.

When I asked them about how their dogs reacted, they noted that neither dog barked or growled at the creature, but the dogs did strain against their leashes as they tried to move toward the creature. The couple noted that their dogs don’t normally bark at anything, so it didn’t strike them as unusual that the dogs didn’t bark at the creature.

The couple also couldn’t tell if the creature saw them or not, but did say that it could have heard them talking. “We didn’t hang around long enough to find out,” the girlfriend said. “It was weird to say the least.”

Since then the couple doesn’t venture outside of the house at night alone, without a flashlight or without a gun, they said.
