Indians Edge Braves: The Indians, behind a 10-hit barrage, swamped the Braves, 5-4, in the opening game of the Senior League ’65 season. Bubba Mininger, Tommy Weaver and Thomas Riley led the Tribe with two singles each. Bill Bailey gathered in his first win of the season by striking out eight and allowing six hits.
George Stinson, the Braves first-sacker, carried his team’s offensive load with three hits, including a triple. John Brown’s triple, Wayne Hicks’ and Charlie Wild’s singles rounded out the Braves’ attack. Hicks also took the loss, but still put down eight Indians on strikes.

Tigers over Pirates: Two Tiger pitchers combined to hand a young Pirate club its first defeat to the tune of 5-3. Herbert Ellis and Gary Faulkner provided four-hit pitching for the “Cats” while Tommy Chapman did the same for the Pirates. Faulkner, the winner, kept the Bucs hitless for three innings while striking out seven of the 11 men he faced.
Loser Chapman retired 15 Tigers on strikes, seven of them in a row. An inside-the-park home run by Tiger catcher Jerry Johnson gave the Tigers three big runs in the top of the first. Glenn Bolton belted a three-run homer to tie the game. Eddie Ellis drove Gary Faulkner across with a single in the fourth to give the Tigers their winning run. Just to make sure Faulkner scored again on Pirate mistakes in the sixth. Jimmy Bell and Leon Hinson collected two and one hit respectively for the Pirates.
